Service Hours Spreadsheet 2023-2024

Where can I get Service Hours?

  • Members accrue service hours during HOSA-sanctioned events. See "Definition" below.

  • Members are allowed to accrue up to one (1) HOSA-sanctioned event credit and unlimited hours per semester from the Opportunity Village (OV) Thrift Store.

  • Members can also accrue service hours during non HOSA-sanctioned events; however, a maximum of one (1) service hours per semester can be accrued through these non-sanctioned events. Furthermore members accruing non-sanctioned hours must continue to attend a minimum of two other HOSA-sanctioned events.

All WCTA HOSA-sanctioned events count towards service hours.  The sanctioned events include charitable walks and or event volunteers that are health-related. Examples of events include the Hemophilia Walk or the Breast Cancer Walk. The Opportunity Village (OV) Thrift Store is also offered to members as a HOSA-sanctioned event with specific limits detailed below. Members can accrue service hours that are not HOSA-sanctioned, but they must provide service for health-related events or organizations.  Examples of approved non-sanctioned events include volunteering at a hospital, Three Square food bank or any event that provides charity to a medical cause or organization. Examples of non-approved, non-sanctioned events include volunteering at a library.

How many hours do I need?

Students are required to accrue a minimum of 4 hours/semester and 2 service events (8 hours and 4 service events for an entire school year).  Students are allowed to bank up to 1 excess service hour (with no event credit) from the first semester to be accrued for the second semester (see example 1 below).  At no time can a member accrue extra hours in the second semester to retroactively be used for first semester hours (see example 2 below).

  • Example 1: A member has accrued 6 service hours during the fall semester.  This member has fulfilled the 4 service hour requirement for the fall semester and is in good standing. 1 extra service hour can be used to fulfill the spring semester hours.

  • Example 2: A member has accrued 2 service hours during the fall semester.  This member has not fulfilled the 4 service hour requirement for the fall semester and is not in good standing.  This student cannot accrue hours in the spring semester to make up for the 2 hours.
